Maggie Louise Love Garvin Rivers, born on February 27, 1927, in Evans, Georgia, to Reynold Love & Anna Mae Mims.  She grew up in Beech Island, South Carolina

Maggie attended the St Phillip Elementary School and one year of High School in Augusta Georgia. The remainder of her education was attended at Bettis High School where she graduated in 1945 and Bettis Jr. College graduating in 1947 in Langley, SC.

Louise, Maggie, or M. Louise as she was affectionally called by her family and friends, was one of 12 Siblings (Dorothy, Marie, Lelia, David, Reynold, Ezekiel, John, Georgia, Leroy, Dianne, and Lillie). She referred to them as "The Loves".

As teenager, Maggie joined the St Phillips Baptist Church. Shortly after Maggie met and married JC Garvin and to this union one son Vernon Lee Garvin was born. This marriage was dissolved in divorce.

In 1952 Maggie moved to Philadelphia, PA and joined the Thankful Baptist Church under the pastorship of the late Rev. Harrison J. Trapp, where her aunt Sarah Robinson was a member. Maggie served on numerous ministries at Thankful, such as: The Primary Sunday School teacher for 49 years and served in various ministries including Missions President, Secretary of the Teaching Staff, Recording Secretary for 30 years, Women's Chorus, Unity Choir, Sanctuary Choir, Feeding Ministry, Scholarship Fund, Nurses Unit, and Drama Guild. Maggie organized the women's league from its conception, which was initiated by former first lady Edna Trapp in 1954. Maggie continued her stewardship with the Progressive National Baptist Convention through the Women's Service Committee, supporting the Venango Home until its closing in 2006.

On Dec 1, 1956, Maggie married Trustee Harrison Earl Rivers at Thankful Baptist Church, the two met in rehearsals for the Drama Guild. Maggie and Harrison opened their home to numerous family friends in their time of need.  Harrison and Maggie traveled extensively throughout the States and out of the country to: Eastern and Western Europe, these stops included The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, London, Italy, France, Sweden, Finland. Austria, Russia, Poland and even to Jerusalem to visit the Holy Land. Maggie and Harrison's union lasted 47 years until his demise in 2004.

Maggie was a woman of distinction style and class. Maggie attended The Philadelphia School of Modeling. She had a sense of style and could "hook up'' any outfit; she mixed the old with the new.

Maggie was known for her talent for poetry reading and her love for fashion, often modeling in fashion shows at church and Strawbridge's & Clothier, where she worked for 25 years. Maggie had big dreams of becoming a movie star.  The first role she played a part as the president in the "Slabtown Convention" which was directed by First Lady Trapp. Maggie was selected to be an Extra in the movie "Beloved" starring Oprah Winfrey, only to have her part left on the cutting room floor.

Maggie Louise was a virtuous woman. Her intelligence, grace, style and unwavering faith left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She inspired people of all ages in extraordinary ways.  She fought the good fight, finished the course and kept the faith.

Maggie was preceded in death by her parents Reynold& Anna Mae Love; Husband Harrison, Son Vernon L Garvin Sr., Nephew Gerald Love whom she raised as a son. Siblings Dorothy, Ezekiel, John, Leroy and Lille.

On Thursday December 4, 2025. Maggie received her crown of righteousness with her heavenly father. Who is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords

Her motto was: "I'd rather wear out than to rust out. I work because I can't help it."

Maggie leaves to cherish her legacy Grandchildren Vernon Garvin (Paula) Davita Nelson (Sean), Tiffany Goods. Great Grandchildren Tiffany, Shante`, Taneka, Shaneka, Tiana, Veron III, Ariana, Nolan, Justin. Great Great Grandchildren Skylar, Dior, Derrick Jr, Darrius, Darrian. Siblings Dave (Fannie), Marie, Lelia, Reynold (Dolly), Georgia, Diane. Brother n Law Ernest. Daughter n Love Lavaughn Jones. God Children Jocelyn Jones, Marsha Bowens, Brian Bowens, Connie Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A letter from heaven From M. Louise Rivers

I stepped on board the old ship of Zion on December 4, 2025. It landed safe to my Heavenly home. What a sight to behold. Every day is like Sunday, Christmas and Easter all in one. John described it in Chapter 21 of Revelations when you get the chance, take the time to read it.
